『!Simpatico! (Remastered and Expanded)』は、長らく廃盤となっていた Velocity Girl の1994年のセカンドアルバムに、待望の輝きを取り戻させたリイシュー盤です。鮮烈な最新リマスタリングに加え、当時のB面曲や未発表音源といった宝の山をボーナストラックとして追加。オリジナル盤がかつてないほどの好音質で蘇っただけでなく、レア音源集としての側面も併せ持つ充実の内容となっています。
デビュー作『Copacetic』のツアー後、バンドは1年近くを費やして今作の楽曲群を作り上げました。ラベルからの予算と十分な制作時間を得て、セルフプロデュースのパンクロック的な手法から脱却することは、彼らにとって新鮮な経験でした。前作のノイジーなスタイルで新曲を演奏し続けていた彼らは、楽曲そのものの良さに興奮しつつも、かつての粗削りでアマチュアな雰囲気からの脱退を模索していました。影響源も My Bloody Valentine や The Wedding Present から、より New Order 的な質感へと変化していたのです。
運命的な出会いは、Sub Pop の紹介で訪れました。The Smiths や Billy Bragg を手掛けた John Porter がプロデューサーに就任。John Porter は、不要なリフレインを容赦なく削ぎ落とすエディター兼アレンジャーとして、当時のバンドが必要としていた規律をもたらしました。彼の存在により、バンドはノイジーなギターをほぼ捨て去り、よりクリーンで洗練されたラインを持つサウンドへと舵を切ったのです。こうして完成した『!Simpatico!』は、1994年6月にリリースされました。
今回の拡張版には、アルバム・セッションの数ヶ月後に Inner Ear Studios で録音された8曲が追加されています。遊び心に溢れた実験的なB面曲をはじめ、Merge Records からリリースされた New Order（「Your Silent Face」）や The Beach Boys のカバー、コンピレーション提供曲などが収録されています。
