作曲家、クラリネット奏者、歌手、教育者であるAngel Bat Dawidは、新作「Requiem For jazz」のリリースを発表しました。エドワード・O・ブランドの1959年の映画「The Cry of Jazz」の台詞にインスパイアされて作曲、編曲された12楽章の組曲で、このアルバムは、最も鋭い語り手の一人がアフリカ系アメリカ人の物語を広範に論じた作品である。
アメリカの人種政治を鋭く批判した『The Cry of Jazz』は、ジャズ音楽の構造と、自由と束縛、喜びと苦しみ、日常生活の厳しい偏見に打ち勝つ精神の勝利として現れるアフリカ系アメリカ人の経験との形式的な比較を描いている。
